About Us

The world and African continent, particularly Cameroon, face technical, human, social, economic, and environmental challenges, especially regarding inclusivity. We can’t sit idle with these issues without advocating for actual change transparently. If not addressed, basic life support systems will be negatively affected, worsening denigration among persons living with impairments and those in disabling conditions in urban and rural Cameroon and globally.

The challenges already make living standards drastic for Cameroonians, especially those living with a disability. Access to inclusive education, healthcare, portable water, Inclusive Job opportunities and adapted sports are inadequate in urban areas and nearly non-existent in rural areas, excluding war zones. Job opportunities for persons living with special Needs are scarce; companies can adapt jobs to various impairments if willing and with the help of SHAFE FOUND.AS.

Sustainable development meets the needs of present and future generations without compromising their abilities. Leadership is intellectual and vocal; no one should say a person living with an impairment can’t lead. Cameroon and the world need combined efforts from associations, governments, NGOs, and diplomatic missions to drive positive change through participatory development strategies.

What We Are

SHAFE FOUND.AS is an organization that joins hands with other mother and baby foundations, associations, non-governmental organizations, and the government to fight problems based on sustainable development and inclusivity in Cameroon and the world. This is to uplift the living standards of the most vulnerable invalid person by extending support to the invalid younger generation to greater heights.

We therefore preach for individual assistance with inclusive job and/or empowerment opportunities rather than assistance with basic commodities. This is because jobs and individual empowerment opportunities will sustain them and their entire families and communities throughout their lifetime.

Our Vision

Our vision is to create a world of hope by advocating for inclusive individual empowerment and employment opportunities, focusing on inclusion and social justice for persons living with impairments. We aim to overcome poverty and ensure all people, especially impaired children and adults (0-30 years), live with dignity and security, free from uncertainty about their inclusive future. This vision applies not only to Cameroon, but also to Africa and the world, as inclusivity problems are global.

Our Mission

Our mission is to foster inclusive and harmonious connections among individuals living with disabilities, promoting love and enhancing their quality of life. We aim to transform traditional food assistance programs into sustainable solutions by offering comprehensive training for self-employment.

We also goal to train companies and stakeholders on adapting working environments to fit job opportunities for everyone, regardless of ability ( we don’t fail to remind everyone that a given Job opportunity and its environment adapts to a given impairing condition and not that the disability adapts to the environment). Through these efforts, we empower individuals living with impairments to achieve self-sufficiency and independence.

Our Story

Founder’s Desk

shafes foundation founder 2

My name is Shafe Therese Vernyuy, a secondary school teacher and advocate for inclusive education. I hold a Higher National Diploma in Inclusive Education, and a Master’s Degree in Special Education with a specialization in Amputee Athletics from the University of Yaoundé I.

I am the Founding President and CEO of SHAFE FOUND.AS (Social Harmony and Awareness Family Founders Association). From the moment I became enlightened about the concept of “permanent validity” and inclusivity, my passion for advocating for persons living with a disability has remained unwavering. I have come to understand that major health challenges such as diabetes, stroke, mental illness, and accidents, often lead to three possible paths: renewed life, life with a disability, or eternal rest. Therefore, the human mind must be prepared for all circumstances.

This understanding ignited my commitment to improving the quality of life of persons living with an impairment and those in disabling conditions, especially internally displaced persons with a disability, children in underprivileged communities, and vulnerable populations across Cameroon and beyond.

Driven by this passion, I founded SHAFE FOUND.AS, an organization dedicated to promoting inclusive job opportunities, empowerment, and sustainable employment for all. We believe that true inclusion begins with economic independence and self-worth.

We encourage individuals to step out of their comfort zones, think creatively, and become agents of change in every environment they find themselves. We are change itself. By showcasing our talents and abilities; regardless of our limitations, we become impactful members of our communities and the world.

SHAFE FOUND.AS seeks to collaborate with missions, embassies, international organizations such as the United Nations, the European Union, Care International, NGOs, and the Government of Cameroon to promote sustainable development for persons with special needs.

Our vision is to create a safe, nurturing, and empowering environment for persons living with a disability; comparable to a “Garden of Eden” where poverty is overcome, security is guaranteed, and children and families can live without fear of an uncertain future.

Like many nations, Cameroon faces economic challenges that have greatly affected living standards. These hardships disproportionately impact persons with a disability and vulnerable populations. In response, SHAFE FOUND.AS has committed itself to becoming a catalyst for quality inclusive education, improved healthcare, and sustainable livelihoods.

For over four years, we have actively worked—despite limited resources—to transform lives. Through sensitization campaigns, school visits, seminars, and community outreach, we identify individuals living with a disability, document their skills, aspirations, and educational backgrounds, and connect them with potential partners, employers, and donors.

We organize forums where these individuals are introduced to high-profile personalities, companies, and diplomatic representatives who can support them through training, employment, or sponsorship.

Our primary focus is on children and young adults aged 0–30 from disadvantaged communities, including:

  • Persons living with a disability

  • Internally displaced persons with an impairment

  • Orphans and street children

  • Individuals living in disabling conditions

Many in this group survive on less than 500 FCFA per day, and some internally displaced persons live on less than 300 FCFA daily. These conditions limit their access to education, healthcare, sports, and social life.

Inclusive education in Cameroon remains scarce and costly due to inadequate infrastructure, limited trained personnel, and insufficient facilities. Yet, sports, education, health, and social inclusion are vital pillars of human development and unity, as demonstrated through global events such as the Olympics and Paralympics.

We strive to ensure that children and adults with an impairment live to their fullest potential through resilience, dignity, and empowerment.

Rather than relying on periodic food assistance, we advocate for long-term solutions through skills development, employment, and entrepreneurship. Sustainable livelihoods reduce dependency and restore dignity.

Disability is not inability. When given equal opportunities, persons living with a disability consistently demonstrate remarkable talent, creativity, and determination. Our role is to guide, mentor, and support them throughout their journey of learning and growth.

We remain optimistic and dedicated to achieving our goals. Together, we can make inclusion real, empowerment practical, and opportunities accessible.

Let us make inclusivity a living song in every environment—from babies to future generations—because disability and illness can affect anyone at any time. By preparing our minds, families, and societies, we create a more compassionate and resilient world.

Thank you for your time and commitment to making inclusion a shared responsibility.

Together, we will build a future where everyone is respected, valued, and empowered.
